The Biblical Case for
Equal Protection

For over 50 years, abortion has been one of the most widely debated policy issues in America. Opinions vary widely, and since the Dobbs decision, abortion laws are being crafted to suit the political makeup of each individual state. But should the right to life be decided by majority rule, or is there a higher authority that reigns over the subjective opinions of voters? Thankfully, it’s the latter. The U.S. Constitution is the highest law of the land and is the framework for protecting our unalienable rights - like the right to life - against the tyranny of the majority. However, the ultimate authority, and the one our Constitution is based upon, is the Word of God. Lawmakers and citizens alike will answer to God for their response in the face of one of the greatest evils of our time. Rather than trying to end abortion with political pragmatism and worldly wisdom, we must implement justice by following the words of Scripture and then trust the results to a perfectly just and perfectly loving God.

Abortion is murder.

1

Human life begins at the moment of fertilization and is made in the image of God. God forbids the taking of innocent human life at any stage of development.

Genesis 1:27-28, Genesis 4:1, Genesis 25:22, Exodus 20:13, Exodus 21:22-25, Leviticus 20:1-5, Ruth 4:13Psalm 8:3-8, Psalm 139:13-16, Ecclesiastes 11:5, Matthew 5:17-20,  Luke 1:15, Luke 1:41, 1 Corinthians 11:7, James 3:9

Abortion must be equally criminalized for everyone.

2

The standard of God’s justice is the same for everyone regardless of whether they are in the womb or out of the womb. The Lord abhors partiality and unequal weights and measures in matters of judgment and justice. No one gets special murder rights.

Exodus 21:22-25, Leviticus 19:15, Proverbs 17:15, Proverbs 20:10

Abortion is an issue of national sin.

3

Child sacrifice brings the judgment of God down upon entire nations. The United States is accountable before God for tolerating and participating in the shedding of innocent blood.
